Town HallJazz at the Town Hall: Too Cool - A Tribute To Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan
Wednesday 13 March, 7.30pm Sue Richardson trumpet & vocals, Karen Sharp baritone sax, Neal Richardson piano, George Trebar double bass, Steve Brown drums. The huge talents of Sue Richardson and Karen Sharpe combine in an exciting tribute to Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan. Sue's new project, Too Cool, brings her love of Chet Baker, her sensitive writing and formidable improvisational skills together into a new show interpreting aspects of Chet's life, not just through his most famous recordings but also his own compositions. Karen has twice won the tenor saxophone category in the British Jazz Awards, but is equally at home playing the baritone. 'Sue plays swinging jazz trumpet, with excellent technique and a remarkable command of a variety of styles. She sings with a musician's phrasing and her songs come with proper tunes and grown-up harmonies attached - a rarity in itself.' Observer 'Karen Sharp's new album confirms that she has steadily developed into a major artist. Having persuaded her to buy a baritone when she joined my band, she now has one of the best sounds on the instrument to be heard on the planet.'
