Olympic Torch Relay!

The Olympic Torch Relay is coming to Reading! Be a part of this amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of the Olympics! Reading is excited and proud to be selected as one of only 66 areas in the UK to host the Olympic Flame and an evening celebration event as part of its journey around the UK. The Olympic Flame will travel for approximately 12 hours each day before stopping each evening.

We need you to help make this opportunity the most special and memorable occasion in Reading’s 2012 calendar.

The Olympic Torch Relay has been successfully secured by Reading Borough Council in partnership with the 2012 Partnership Board, to pass through our town - bringing a piece of the Olympics to Reading!

Reading will be a hive of activity as we lead up to the 2012 Games with festivals, events and a huge outdoor showcase celebration planned.  More importantly taking part will provide you with the tools to create and inspire the legacy of cultural activity and engagement beyond the games for years to come.

The Cultural Partnership are launching their Community Activator Scheme with the Olympic Torch Relay and need people to come forward to register to help with:

• Creating community legacy activities
• Planning
• Marketing
• Community engagement
• Stewarding
• Event management

Being a Community Activator means that you’ll be involved in creating a legacy both pre and post the games, and will ensure that you’ll have the opportunity to be involved with the torch event!

You just need to be able to come to one of our induction workshops and commit to 4 hours per month to help with cultural activities that matter to you within the community. You’ll bring your energy and enthusiasm and we’ll provide all the training and support that you’ll need. Places are limited so sign up today to make sure that you don’t miss out!
